Back to those solid playlists.

High On Fire, “The Sunless Years”

More stoner rock from High On Fire, this time from Luminiferous, the most recent record from the outfit. Although, frankly, there’s not a ton of variation among their records. You pretty much know what you’re getting with them. I guess I’d point to Surrounded By Theives as the best, due mostly to a bitchin’ title and dude with an axe on the cover.

Your periodic reminder that there’s an index to this nonsense. And here’s today’s music.

Ghostface Killah, “Be Easy”

From one of his best albums, Fishscale, and the best album he’s made that wasn’t produced by the RZA. This album finds Ghostface in top form, energetically spitting crazy nonsense, and he’s paired with some great production. On this track, Pete Rock is absolutely laying it down.

Paris Combo, “Moi, Mon Âme Et Ma Conscience (Live)”

This is the second time we’ve had Ghostface and the Paris Combo in the same playlist. This is Five Songs, baby!

Hey, if anybody is curious what stuff I’ve bought on Bandcamp, you can see my profile here. The top eight are the ones I picked up yesterday. Here’s today’s music.

Future of the Left, “Failed Olympic Bid”

Glitchy and bloopy at first, and then pounding, this song is delightful.

Jello Biafra with the Melvins, “The Lighter Side of Global Terrorism (Extended Space-Melt Version)”

After the breakup of the legendary Dead Kennedys, Jello Biafra has hooked up with a variety of collaborators for albums. He’s done pretty well picking those collaborators - Lard’s first album (with Ministry) was great, for instance, and I love everything Melvins. So, how is this album? Pretty good! It’s the Melvins with the usual unhinged Jello ranting on top. Both of their records are pretty fun. This track is actually an extended version of a song that appears on the other record, with a big ol’ freakout. I do love me some extended Melvins freakouts.

I’m considering doing the occasional “Five Songs Special”, where I choose an artist I love and pick five songs from them that best tell that artist’s story. Good idea? Bad? Totally fail to let me know! Today’s music is over here.

Another note: when we have an artist that has appeared before, I’m going to skip basic background stuff. I think that makes sense, because I provide the “previously” links if anybody jumps into the middle and wants to know more about an artist.
